AT&T struggles to defend open cloudiness of Ericsson deal
More than a year into the Ericsson-led rollout, there is very little evidence AT&T's radio access network is as multivendor and virtualized as the telco makes out.
Apertio announced a landmark infrastructure deal that will see Vodafone deploying its Apertio One-NDS at the core of its UK network

BRISTOL, U.K. -- Apertio, the leading independent provider of subscriber centric networks, today announces a landmark infrastructure deal that will see Vodafone deploying its Apertio One-NDS (Network Directory Server) at the core of its UK network.
The project will enable Vodafone to implement a single, real-time repository for all subscriber and service profiles - creating a much simpler, flexible platform that can be rapidly adapted to match user demand while ensuring greater speed of service creation, delivery and optimisation.
Paul Magelli, CEO of Apertio, said: "By deploying a single data platform underpinning the entire core network, Vodafone is able to create a truly subscriber centric network by liberating vital subscriber data currently locked away in multiple, complex, proprietary hardware applications. In addition, One-NDS will create a more streamlined, resilient and future proofed architecture, slashing the cost of the core network by up to 50 percent and providing a platform for the development and delivery of IMS/convergence services."
Apertio One-NDS is a real-time, resilient and distributed data and application-hosting environment for 2G, 2.5G and 3G telecommunications networks. It provides a single centralised repository for all subscriber, service and network data. Mobile, fixed and converged communications operators are using Apertio's real-time One-NDS to liberate 'locked up' data from proprietary hardware infrastructure. This significantly reduces the complexity and cost of the core network, places the subscriber at its core, and by providing the ability to control and manage data across multiple access points and devices, delivers the ideal platform for deploying IMS.
Apertio's suite of mobility applications, including One-HSS and One-HLR, are built on top of One-NDS to create the real time, standards based, open architecture so fundamental in enabling the development of multi-channel, multi-device IMS and next generation services.
One-NDS is set to go live on Vodafone's UK network in 2006.
