NSSL Satellite Communications Solutions deploys Allot’s NetEnforcer to deliver broadband network access for luxurious fleet of superyachts
January 28, 2008
LONDON -- Allot Communications (NASDAQ: ALLT), a leader in IP service optimisation solutions based on deep packet inspection (DPI), today announced that NSSL Satcom Solutions, a world leading provider of high speed wireless data and voice services for maritime, government, energy, media, finance and corporate sectors worldwide has deployed Allot’s NetEnforcer traffic management devices at its satellite earth station in Florida, controlled via its Network Operations Centre in Redhill, Surrey. The NetEnforcer guarantees the optimised delivery of SLA-defined bandwidth and a consistent high quality of experience at all times for NSSL’s superyacht customers.
NSSL’s customers require continuous broadband access for the reliable transfer of data on board some of the most exclusive motor yachts in the world. The Allot NetEnforcer has allowed NSSL to offer a bespoke managed data service capable of guaranteeing the delivery of pre-defined bandwidth for its fleet of customers (Premium Plus (a dedicated broadband channel), Premium (2MB), Standard (1MB), and Economy (512kbps). Plus the solution prioritises network traffic, throttles peer-to-peer, regulates applications and enforces SLAs.
The monitoring capabilities of the NetEnforcer have also brought unexpected benefits, enabling NSSL to enhance its customer service. Realtime and historic reports have allowed NSSL to isolate network issues and respond to these, identifying the vessel, terminal and application at the source of the problem and proactively providing customer support to staff onboard or by sending an IT consultant to the affected vessel.
When evaluating market vendors, NSSL was particularly impressed with Allot's superior granularity, QoS, and management capabilities, and with the centralised management offered by NetXplorer, which enables the real-time monitoring and reporting of network utilisation throughout its fleet of luxurious superyacht customers.
"Because satellite capacity is so expensive, it’s very important that we control the use of that capacity on the satellite very accurately," said NSSL Engineering Manager Ian Lewis. "The visibility provided by the Allot solution has become vital to managing our earth station efficiently. We can prioritise the various types of network applications in line with the specific needs of each vessel and ensure reliable delivery of the services they offer guests on-board," added Lewis.
