EMERYVILLE, Calif. -- Netopia, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NTPA - News), a market leader in broadband equipment and service delivery software, today announced three new gateways designed for cost-effective delivery of IPTV, video, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and data across VDSL networks. Part of Netopia's MiAVo line of "triple play products," the new gateways will be available to carriers and service providers in late August and include Netopia's VGx quality-of-service (QoS) technology and TR-069 remote management functionality to ensure that voice, video, and data can coexist and be delivered reliably on the same network. VDSL (Very high bit rate Digital Subscriber Line) is a version of DSL with throughput up to 100 Mbps -- enough bandwidth to support multiple IPTV channels, high-speed data, and a nearly unlimited number of simultaneous phone calls -- all delivered over copper telephone lines.

Netopia's family of MiAVo triple play gateways leverages Netopia's advanced WAN and LAN routing and security capabilities, as well as Netopia's VGx QoS software, for reliable delivery of high-quality video content and crystal-clear voice services. The first in a complete line of triple play gateways that will add innovative LAN distribution technologies and additional WAN interfaces, Netopia's three new MiAVo VDSL gateways are each designed for specific VDSL applications.

For IP-based VDSL2 networks:

  • MiAVo VDSL2 gateway offering a 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch to cost-effectively connect Ethernet devices such as IPTV set-top-boxes

  • MiAVo VDSL2 gateway which integrates Netopia's 3-D Reach® 802.11b/g Wi-Fi technology for wireless connectivity to laptops, PCs, and Wi-Fi VoIP phones, as well as a 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch for wired devices such as Webcams and IPTV set-top-boxes

For ATM-based VDSL networks:

  • MiAVo VDSL gateway incorporating Netopia's 3-D Reach 802.11b/g Wi-Fi technology and a 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch

"Our MiAVo VDSL gateways have been designed to address the needs of our carrier partners, enabling them to capitalize on their investments in VDSL-enabled triple play networks," said Jeff Porter, vice president of product marketing for Netopia. "These are the first of a comprehensive portfolio of MiAVo gateways slated for delivery over the next few quarters."
