MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- NetLogicMicrosystems, Inc., the leader in packetclassification and forwarding solutions for networkingand communications, today announced the availabilityof its next-generation evaluation kit to support thelatest 512K entry NL5000 product family. Completewith an evaluation card, software suite with samplescripts, and test cases, the evaluation kit allowssystem architects to prototype networking applicationsrapidly using a Windows-based PC prior to having theirown board and ASICs available.

The high-performance evaluation kit enables customersto use the PCI-based evaluation card to develop andverify intended applications at operating speeds up to266 MHz. Customers can run cycle-accurate patternsthrough an on-board FPGA that fully exercise thefunctionality of NetLogic’s 512K entry devices andconfirm compatibility with target applications. Theevaluation card supports up to four depth-cascadedNL5000 products, accommodating more than two millionIPv4 routing entries.

Designers can use the evaluation kit to develop testcases stimulating the device over tens of millions ofcycles rapidly with the provided Perl driven scripts. These scripts also provide the ability toautomatically check the device output against expectedresults. The card can also be integrated into customer-specific testplatforms with the supplied drivers and software to provide high-levelprogramming of test cases.

Additionally, system designers can use thesecomprehensive software and hardware tools to evaluate ASIC/finite statemachine architectures, develop software and algorithms, and calculatepower budget by performing power benchmarking, thus acceleratingdevelopment time for applications. The evaluation kit also includes auser manual and reference designs for schematic capture, board layout, power supply, and decoupling.

“NetLogic’s evaluation solutions have proven to speed development timefor our customers,” said Martyn Humphries, vice president of marketingat NetLogic Microsystems. “System designers require quick andcost-efficient means to make decisions for their sophisticatedarchitectures. Our next-generation evaluation kit provides an immediateway to test high-speed, high-performance applications in a systemsenvironment in order to verify the functionality and the features of ourproducts.”
