PARIS -- Netcentrex, the leading enabler of next generation converged voice and video networks and solutions, today announced a new release of its MCS IP Media Server, providing advanced voice and video capabilities and serving as an MRF (Media Resource Function) in Netcentrex’ IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) architecture.

New video capabilitiesIn addition to its successful voice capabilities, MCS v6 introduces video media processing, accessible from all types of fixed or mobile video terminals: fixed video phones, 3G mobile video phones, and PC-based video clients. Video applications available on the MCS IP Media Server include video mail and Netcentrex’ Video Service Broker. A major European incumbent operator has already launched a single, automated access to a variety of content and services for video users from both fixed and mobile networks, based on the innovative Video Service Broker.

IMS-readyOne of the key promises of IMS is the possibility for end-users to experience a combination of simultaneous multimedia communication sessions. These future-proof capabilities of the MCS v6 mean that it serves as the MRF component in an IMS architecture as new, multimedia IP networks are being deployed.

Validated on AdvancedTCAThe new version of the MCS IP Media Server has been successfully validated on the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA) bladed server running high performance Intel® Xeon™ processors. AdvancedTCA is a series of industry standard specifications for the next generation of carrier grade communications equipment. It incorporates the latest high speed interconnect technologies and next generation processors. It delivers improved reliability, manageability and serviceability, with a new blade and chassis form factor optimized for communications. AdvancedTCA provides a standardized platform architecture for carrier-grade telecommunication applications, with support for features such as NEBS, ETSI, and 99.999% availability.

“AdvancedTCA platforms with Intel® processors are ideal for demanding voice and video applications, “said Kevin D Johnson, general manager of Marketing and Platform Programs, Communications Infrastructure Group, at Intel. “Working closely with innovative solution developers like Netcentrex we can provide carrier-class media processing solutions powered by Intel technologies on AdvancedTCA standards-based platforms.”

"The additional multimedia capabilities of the MCS IP Media Server combined with its capacity to operate as an MRF in emerging, IMS-based networks have already attracted much attention from service providers," commented Erik Larsson, VP of Marketing at Netcentrex. "The platform has already been successfully deployed by leading operators across both fixed and mobile networks to create differentiation and end-user value in their services. IMS requirements will lead to many more deployments in the near future.”
