SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Multiplex, Inc., the South Plainfield, New Jersey-based, vertically integrated manufacturer of high-end opto-electronic components, has announced the opening of a high-speed design center in San Jose, California. This location will serve as an additional research and development arm of Multiplex, with the express mission of developing high-speed laser packages and receivers.Multiplex is currently involved in an aggressive ramp-up of manufacturing, and its management team fully understands that the best way to protect R&D resources is to isolate them from the rigors of day-to-day manufacturing. This, coupled with access to the extraordinary talent pool in the San Jose region, lead to the decision of locating this facility nearly 3,000 miles from its corporate headquarters. With a presence on the West Coast, Multiplex has also expanded its worldwide footprint.

“With the addition of this design center, we will be able to dramatically cut our new product development times,” said Dr. Won T. Tsang, president of Multiplex. “We currently offer end-to-end photonics for 10Gb/s applications, and the advancement of our R&D capabilities will greatly speed our entrée into the world of 40Gb/s transmission rates and other high-speed solutions.”
