Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) has long been an ardent supporter of the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) , the group pushing home entertainment networking using good ol' coaxial cable. Indeed, Charlie Cerino, Comcast's VP of new services technology, serves as MoCA's president.

MoCA finally succeeded in coaxing Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC) into joining the group this month, albeit at the lesser "Contributor" level. [Ed. note: TWC may have been officially coaxed this month, but we had the scoop back in May.] MSOs Comcast and Cox Communications Inc. , as well as suppliers Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT), Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) and Panasonic Corp. (NYSE: PC) are all high-flying MoCA "Promoters." So are archrivals Echostar and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ). Prior to bagging Time Warner Cable, MoCA also landed Pace Micro Technology and Arris Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) as members in June. (See Arris Sips on MoCA and MoCA Picks Up Pace.) It appears the coax club has finally reached cable industry critical mass. Better late than never.
