LOD, Israel -- Telrad networks announced today that its Commatch 6004 platform, which allows voice over WiMAX through existing TDM switches, has been successfully deployed on two live networks in Poland, as part of a deployment of Alvarion’s (NASDAQ: ALVR) WiMAX solution.

Commatch 6004 allows call handling in VoIP deployments by providing a SIP to V5.2 gateway platform that transfers voice signaling as well as services such as call waiting, caller ID, fax and other services. The solution is particularly appealing in rural areas, where cost is a major issue, and in initial WiMAX deployments, where a softswitch is impractical or not economical.

“In much of the world now, we see operators using WiMAX to provide access in locations where there previously was no access of any kind,“ said Rebecca Rachmany, Director of Marketing for Telrad Networks. “In these locations, in addition to the broadband access, operators want to provide voice, without the expense of a softswitch. Commatch 6004 allowed Alvarion’s customers to get voice up and running in just a few hours.”
