7:45 AM -- Indian services startup Swan Telecom has purchased fellow 2G license holder, Allianz Infratech, following the issue of a no-objection certificate from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), according to a report in India's Economic Times.

Swan Telecom, in which Etisalat holds a 49 percent share, is one of the six new entrants in India's telecom market and holds licenses in 13 of India's 22 circles (service areas). (See A Guide to India's Telecom Market.)

Allianz Infratech holds a license to operate in a further two -- the B circle of Madhya Pradesh and the C circle of Bihar.

Once the purchase goes ahead, Swan, which is concentrating mainly on India's cities and towns, will have secured a presence in all but two of the country's urban circles -- the Metro circle of Kolkata and its surrounding B circle, West Bengal.
