Small cells

Everything Everywhere Does Femtos

9:55 AM -- As the name might imply, EE -- the joint venture created by Orange UK and T-Mobile (UK) this year -- includes femtocells among its offerings.

During the company's investor day presentations in London today, Everything Everywhere VP of networks Emin Gürdenli, said that femtocells were already in use "with our B2B customers, and that's not just a technical trial." (See UK Mobile Giant Flexes Its Muscle.)

He said that WiFi and femtocells were already in the operator's "toolkit" for addressing capacity and coverage and that the operator will "exploit these as complementary solutions to our platform."

So, since Orange or T-Mobile, or both, have been handing out femtos to some business customers in the UK, that means Vodafone UK is no longer the only femto game in town here. (See Orange, T-Mobile Go Slow on Femtos and T-Mobile Trials Femtos.)

Gürdenli didn't say which femto supplier the operator is using. But a safe bet would be that Ubiquisys Ltd. is involved, considering that T-Mobile is a strategic investor in the UK femto firm as well as in femto chip startup Percello Ltd.
