  • Alcatel-Lucent announced a framework agreement with Telefónica that will see the Spanish giant deploy the vendor's indoor residential and enterprise femtocells in Europe and Latin America. No details were given about the potential size of the contract or Telefónica's deployment plans for the little base stations. However, the deal expands on an existing contract AlcaLu had for supplying femtos to Telefónica in Spain. The Spanish operator has also checked out the vendor's lightRadio small cells in a trial that was showcased earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Shares in the Italian incumbent rose 7 percent on Tuesday on the back of the rumors, though both Telecom Italia and CDP denied there was any truth in them.

  • Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT) is furthering its M2M interests by providing the infrastructure and services for 15,000 smart meters that are about to be installed in the German town of Mülheim an der Ruhr.
