Cisco Small Cell Marketing Leader Leaves

Cisco's small cells and carrier WiFi marketing leader has left the firm to be replaced by a former Ubiquisys vice president.

Jared Headley took on the job of senior director of service provider mobility marketing at Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) in August 2013. A spokesperson for the networking company tells Light Reading that Headley left at the beginning of December. Headley had been at Cisco since 2000. (See In the Air Tonight: Cisco & Facebook's WiFi Tie-Up and The SON Always Shines on LTE.)

Headley started as VP of marketing at 4K video player Aptina on December 10.

Keith Day, former VP of marketing at Ubiquisys, has taken on Headley's role as director of service provider marketing mobility at Cisco. Small cell vendor Ubiquisys was bought by Cisco for $310 million in April 2013. (See Cisco Buying Ubiquisys for $310M.)

Re: My departure Thanks for chiming in, and congrats on the new gig, Jared! I'll look you up at MWC. I'm curious to see how 4K looks and works on smartphones.

My departure Thanks guys.  I enjoyed my time at Cisco, still one of the best companies in the world.  Sarah, thanks for thinking I do a decent interview, I always enjoyed a chance to chat with y'all about the mobility market.  Everyone at Cisco was very kind and supportive of the change.  I'm sure Keith is doing a great job and know Cisco has the right strategy to help carriers be successful in mobile.

Aptina is a unique opportunity for me and the CEO is a great leader.  If you are ever in San Jose and want to see what the future holds for mobile smartphone or tablet cameras (cinema quality 4k video, for example), let me know and I can give you a show 'n tell.  We will also be at MWC demoing some of our next generation mobile image sensors.

Re: Loss for Cisco Yep, started in August...

Loss for Cisco Bummer, he was a good interview. Wasn't he also brand new to the head of service provider mobility role? He was Cisco's small cell lead before that and had been with the company 16 years.
