Netflix Streams to (Some) Androids

Welcome to the cable news roundup, TGIF edition:

  • The good news: Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) streaming has finally reached Android devices. The bad news: Only four phones in the Android lineup (and no tablets) made the first cut. Netflix's primary reason for such sparse support: The lack of "generic and complete platform security."

  • Time Warner Investments joined a $9.25 million round of financing for targeted marketing firm Simulmedia Inc. , which uses anonymous set-top data to predict when viewers are likely to watch TV shows. (See Time Warner Invests in Simulmedia.)

  • Hulu LLC owners News Corp. (NYSE: NWS), Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) and NBCUniversal LLC are close to a new deal that'll keep ABC, Fox and NBC shows on the site. (See Hulu: 'Virtual MSO' in the Making?)

  • Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) thinks connected TVs will "revolutionize" entertainment. (See Yahoo Names Widget Partners.)

  • At least 90 percent of U.K. citizens will have "superfast" broadband (25 Mbit/s) by 2015, if the government makes its goal. (See ITU: Half of World Should Get Broadband by 2015.)

  • Dish Network LLC (Nasdaq: DISH) sends us word that "DISH Phone & Internet" is the brand that will grace telecom services sold through Liberty-Bell Telecom, a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) Dish bought late last year. Dish expects to start selling a triple-play bundle in Colorado within the next 30 days.

  • Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) now has possession of the Bresnan Communications systems in pockets of Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Utah, and, as promised, retired the Bresnan brand on May 12 in favor of its own "Optimum" moniker. And the spots have started, with this one taking a shot at Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q)'s (now CenturyLink Inc. (NYSE: CTL)'s) DSL speeds:
