June Mobile VC: $795M in Funding

Financial analysts Rutberg & Co say that mobile startups have brought in US$4.1 billion in deals in the first half of 2013, a 7 percent increase over the year before.

Overall, during June 2013, private companies in mobile raised $795 million in 98 venture capital deals says the latest funding report from Rutberg. Some of the biggest earners are working on voice-to-mobile APIs, short mobile video apps and wireless network virtualization technology.

Here's how the top five earners stack up, according to Rutberg:

The top five is more U.S.-orientated and -- in particular -- more California-focused than in many previous months. Rutberg also notes that San Francisco-based Clinke, which is working on a still-secret take on mobile payments, came out strong a seed round of $25 million.

"The round is significant for being the largest disclosed seed funding in history, coming from Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, Intel Capital, Intuit, and a number of notable angels including Marc Benioff, Jim Breyer, and Peter Thiel," the Rutberg report states.

re: June Mobile VC: $795M in Funding True, and they are acquisition happy. It'd probably go there to die though.

re: June Mobile VC: $795M in Funding Aw SnapChat, that has to be a prime target for an acquisition, no? I imagine it would roll up nicely with Facebook and Instagram. Or Twitter? Vine?
