Mavenir Buys Stoke for Security, Small Cell

Mavenir is buying Stoke for an undisclosed sum to boost its network security story, global customer base, and enter the small cell market.

Mavenir Systems Inc. said Thursday that buying Stoke Inc. will allow it to add an LTE security gateway to its existing Session Border Controller and evolved Packet Data Gateway. (See The Rise of Virtual EPC.)

Stoke also has a good customer presence in Asia. In particular, NTT DoCoMo Inc. (NYSE: DCM) and SoftBank Mobile Corp. are customers for the security gateway. (See Stoke Gets Bigger in Japan With SoftBank.)

Mavenir also says that the Stoke acquisition will allow it to enter into the small cell market with its own small cell gateway.

Stoke first emerged in 2005 as a fixed-mobile convergence startup. It raised around $92 million in multiple VC funding rounds. (See Stoke Uncloaks.)

The acquisition is expected to close before November 21.
