The 2013 Leading Lights have been up and running for a few weeks, and the submissions have been pouring in… and there are only days left to enter if you want to win a prestigious industry prize and attend the gala awards dinner in New York City on October 1.
(Check out these details to find out how you could be sipping on a mojito at the Rosebud cocktail lounge with the cream of the telecom crop that Tuesday evening...)
To enter any of our 13 categories, as well as nominate individuals for the Light Reading Hall of Fame, please do so now by visiting this Leading Lights awards site.
The awards include a number of new categories that reflect current communications services trends and highlight the importance of innovation. The full list of categories is as follows:
- Best New Product (Cable)
- Best New Product (Mobile)
- Best New Product (Telecom)
- Most Innovative Ethernet/Optical Service *NEW*
- Most Innovative Carrier Cloud Service *NEW*
- Most Innovative 4G Service *NEW*
- Most Innovative Carrier WiFi Deployment *NEW*
- Most Innovative Video Service *NEW*
- Most Innovative SMB Service *NEW*

In addition, nominations can be made for the Hall of Fame, which recognizes those individuals for their reputation and notoriety in the field of next-generation telecommunications. Of course, that can include both famous and infamous individuals -- those already inducted into the Hall of Fame include individuals who have achieved outstanding technical contributions but also some who have displayed a remarkable lack of ethics and decency. (See Light Reading's Hall of Fame: The Story So Far.)
But you need to hurry if you want to be considered for the shortlists. Nominations close on Friday, Aug. 30 (there will be no extensions), and the finalists will be announced by Friday, Sept. 6.
The awards program, which is managed and judged by Light Reading's editors along with the industry analyst team at Heavy Reading, is free to enter.
The winners, as well as the Hall of Fame inductees, will be announced at a gala dinner to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at The Out NYC, which was voted one of the world's leading "Trendsetter" hotels in Fodor's 2012 Hotel Awards (thus making it far too trendy for most of the Light Reading editorial team).
The awards dinner takes place the evening preceding Light Reading's Ethernet & SDN Expo, which runs Oct. 2 and 3 and is co-located with the Interop show at the Javits Center, New York. (See Leading Lights 2013.)
If you have any questions about the awards, please check out this FAQ document.
So don't delay -- please submit your entries here, and please do so by Friday, Aug. 30, to stand a chance of winning.
