SEOUL -- SK Telecom (NYSE:SKM) announced that it today signed a sales contract with Big Robots to supply 1,000 units of Atti to be sold in France. The company achieved the contract in just 10 days of Atti’s release in Korea on October 24, 2013.

Big Robots is a France-based online distributor of cutting-edge IT products such as robot vacuum cleaner and electric bicycle, and is aggressively expanding its business to other markets including China and Japan.

Atti (a Korean word meaning close friend or buddy) is a cute, friendly-looking robot that uses a smartphone as its brain. According to the contract, SK Telecom will provide Big Robots with 1,000 units of Atti within the end of this year to be distributed to public education institutes and early childhood educational institutes in France.

Armed with diverse innovative features that make learning more fun and easier for children, Atti is attracting great attention from global companies interested in nurturing IT talents. For instance, since September 23, 2013, Atti is being used in two different courses of Talentum Schools* operated by Telefonica, the largest mobile operator in Spain, to allow children to experience learning via robots. Moreover, during ‘Robot World 2013,’ the largest robot exhibition in Korea held October 24-27, the company received a sample order of 200 units from an Indonesian buyer, and is also in talks with companies of other countries including Malaysia to export Atti.
