Nokia Tablet Due in June 2012?

6:45 AM -- Among the many burning questions about Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK)'s device strategy are -- Will the company launch a tablet? And when? (See Nokia Has No Window for Microsoft Tablets Yet.)

Wednesday morning reports hinted at some answers. The head of Nokia France, Paul Amsellem, told French newspaper Les Echos that the company will have a tablet running on Windows 8 in June 2012.

The report comes just as Nokia's first smartphone based on Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system, the Lumia 800, goes on sale in six European countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and the U.K. (See Nokia Ships First Windows Phone to Europe , Nokia Launches Windows Phones, Nokia Has to Rock Its World and Hope for Nokia's Next Billion.)

While it's good to know a tablet is on the roadmap, Nokia has more urgent issues to deal with right now -- winning back lost ground in smartphones and cracking the U.S. market, for example.
