AT&T U-Verse to Get More Mobile in 2014

ATLANTA -- AT&T is getting ready to bring more mobile features to its U-Verse high-speed Internet and TV service early in 2014.

The operator has worked up a way to send photos to a user's TV via the U-Verse platform over WiFi. Once the phone is detected in the U-Verse home environment on WiFi, pictures can be streamed directly to the TV via the set-top box.

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) has also developed a phone finder capability over U-Verse. This means that if a user can't find his or her phone at home the person can make it ring at maximum volume even if it has been previously muted.

Finally, the operator is adding a feature that allows the caller ID on calls to a U-Verse subscriber's phone to flash up on screen when they are watching TV. The user then has a range of options in answering.

AT&T was showing off the new features at its Atlanta Foundry opening Tuesday. The mobile additions are expected to become available sometime in the first quarter of 2014.

Re: New features
That's A&E Networks. So you're a "Duck Dynasty" fan, eh? Why am I not surprised, Dan?

Re: New features
Maybe they should take the Comcast route and buy a TV network.

Re: New features
The bandwidth is WiFi, so probably not an issue. Content rights as ever will be a big issue.

Re: New features
thanks. I still wonder about their capacity to do mobile video. Don't they still need more bandwidth? And what kind of content rights do they have right now? They seem pretty behind Verizon and even the cable guys here.

Yep, that's coming eventually, music too, now they have the smartphone tied into the U-Verse set-top environment via WiFi the sky's the limit. Just don't know exactly when yet.

Re: New features
So how about mobile video, Dan? Does AT&T have any plans to do that over U-verse? And how far away would that be?

Re: New features
Which is certainly a good thing. Provided it's free, these are great updates. It'll be important they continuously innovate and add features.

Re: New features
Sure, I think you can pull these features in via other means now.. AT&T is selling yer average consumer a package though, think of it as a further mobile extension of bundling.
