10 Alternate Uses for Tablets

Blame it on any number of factors, but it's indisputable that the past few years have heralded the downfall of the shiny tablet.

Not even Apple is immune to the decline. Since then, PC sales have increased and smartphone sales are on the high side of stable, demoting the forgotten tablet to a lowly reminder of tech gone by.

Don't despair though -- you've got options. If you have an extra lying around, or you're just more into your oversized smartphone than your undersized computer, we've drummed up some alternate use ideas for you.

Click through to see our genius suggestions for your tablet's second life. From iPads as roof tiles to Minis as coffee coasters, we've got you covered.

Make sure to let us know in the comments about your ideas for tablet afterlife as well! The possibilities are endless.

Chopping Board
Turns out this one already exists! WiFi food prep stations are going to be big with IoT in a few years. Just ask Ikea. It looks like you won't have to make knife marks in your existing tablet after all.

Re: Alternative use #11 Pleasure is mine Susan. We'll definitely coordinate next year. It was nice seeing the LR staff last year during MWC.

Re: Alternative use #11 Kruz, I was also at MWC this year. It would have been nice to meet after all the discussions we always have here. Maybe next year. :) -Susan

Re: Alternative use #11 mhhf1ve, what you are referring to is now called Microsoft PixelSense and is using(ironically), samsung technologies. This was orginially the project out of which Surface emerged as well.

Re: Alternative use #11 Yes that is the inevitable evolution for smartphone before holograms become reality. I have seen a prototype hologram phone at SK telecom's booth this year at MWC. They claim that this will go live in 2016.

Re: Alternative use #11 My dad was actually just telling me about a woman who gave her elderly dad a tablet as a present. He didn't understand what it was for so he just used it as a cutting board. So silly!

Re: Alternative use #11 The chopping board idea was used here as a commercial for Technsense
