Droid Does Chicago

10:45 AM -- CHICAGO -- When Squishable advertised a 15-inch fuzzy green cellphone symbol, you may have thought, what idiot would buy that? But, at only US$39, it's the cheapest Android yet!

So, obviously, we bought one. And then we took it out on the town to celebrate its rise to fame. Click the image below to see our editorially irrelevant ode to Android.

In case you're now wondering why you spent five minutes looking at blurry iPhone pictures (yes, not even from an Android phone), please check out the stories below for real news on Android's rise to fame:

Most juvenile ever?? Thank you so much - that's quite an honor considering some of the blogs in LR's history.

Droid was giving WP7 a swirly, but that had to be changed - apparently swirlies are a US-only phenomena.

I'm pretty sure this is the most juvenile article in LR's history.

That also probably explains why I am laughing.  Furthermore, I won't ever touch these things after the toilet pic.... Apparently you never know where they've been.

Next month Droid and I are holding an Android bakesale, featuring cupcakes, donuts, eclairs, froyo, gingerbread and honeycomb. How's that for fragmentation??

Thanks to Todd Spangler for pointing out another contender for LR's most juvenile story in history: http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=23597.

Any other thoughts?

I think Sarah has discovered the hot new toy for Christmas. Now when eight-year-olds ask Santa for an Android for Christmas, he can give them one of these things. Imagine running down the stairs on Christmas morning expecting a hot new cellphone and finding one of these cuties!

Well done, Sarah. Way to take an idea and run (right to the toilet) with it.

How about "LR's Most Juvenile Story in History, Boys Being Boys' Division" and "LR's Most Juvenile Story in History, Girls Being Girls' Division"?

re: Droid Does Chicago

Droid as a symbol or mascot makes me think of The Noid of the 1980's Dominos Pizza campaign, although that one was red and thin. Avoid the Noid! Or in this case, should it be avoid the Droid?

Two words:  Lingerie Pirates.
