MILPITAS, Calif. -- Kineto Wireless, Inc., a key innovator and leading supplier of telco-OTT solutions to the mobile industry, today announced that Sprint has selected Kineto’s Smart Wi-Fi client to enable Wi-Fi Calling. With Wi-Fi Calling from Sprint, subscribers can use their voice and messaging services over existing home, office and public Wi-Fi networks. As a result, Sprint subscribers are expected to experience high quality voice and messaging coverage in the places they spend most of their time.

“Providing effective indoor coverage continues to be a priority for mobile operators, especially within homes and offices,” said Jeff Brown, president and CEO of Kineto Wireless. “As most subscribers already use Wi-Fi at home and the office, it only makes sense to let them access to their mobile voice and messaging services over those networks. Sprint is again demonstrating its industry leadership by embracing Wi-Fi to help meet this need.”

Voice and messaging coverage at home and in the office has been a top subscriber concern since the very beginning of the mobile industry. Fortunately, with Strategy Analytics reporting that Wi-Fi is now installed in nearly two-thirds of all U.S. households, and a recent Deloitte study indicating nearly two-thirds of all U.S. smartphone users now prefer to connect to Wi-Fi for accessing the Internet, the pieces are now in place to address this coverage concern. With Wi-Fi Calling, Sprint is now able to leverage these existing Wi-Fi networks and smartphone connections to massively, yet cost-effectively, expand its voice and messaging coverage for the benefit of its customers.
