Fixed wireless microwave is beating out fiber in the battle for mobile backhaul, according to a recent Exalt survey of more than 500 wireless Internet service providers (WISPs). (See: Backhaul Tweaks Support HetNet Growth.)

Exalt Communications Inc. quizzed the WISPs on everything from their backhaul of choice to their competitive concerns to their thoughts on the future. Check out the infographic below to see what they had to say.

Subscriber churn
So, WISPs aren't terribly concerned about subscriber churn--is that because big ISPs generally ignore their markets and/or customers, or some other reason?

Re: fiber v. microwave
Valid question, but the survey seems to be a reasonable respresentation on this count, atleast for now. The motivation may be commercial rather than technological.

fiber v. microwave
Exalt obviously provides microwave backhaul, so it's clearly hoping WISPs will say that, but I've also frequently heard fiber is preferred. Is there a consensus yet?
