ZTE Unveils Magic Radio Spectrum Solution

SHENZHEN, China -- ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, today released its proprietary Magic Radio Spectrum Solution product.

This innovative technology achieves deployment of GSM and LTE within the same band, which significantly enhances spectrum utilization and improves efficiency by up to 50 per cent.

The ZTE Magic Radio Spectrum Solution achieves GSM/LTE dual mode in 900M/1800M bands through utilization of existing GSM macro sites. Because of this, in-use GSM voice services are not affected while high-rate data services are still available. The solution accelerates commercial LTE deployments and lowers construction, operations and management costs.

Further, the ZTE Magic Radio Spectrum Solution contains two sub-solutions: the G/L spectrum overlay solution and G/L collaborated spectrum scheduling solution. The former allows GSM and LTE to occupy some identical frequencies simultaneously. This maximizes GSM and LTE capacity. The latter dynamically schedules the amount spectrum resource used by GSM and LTE. When these two sub-solutions are deployed simultaneously, spectrum efficiency can be improved up to 50 per cent.

legacy devices Such implementation could be important for legacy devices support in the future. GSM will not dissapear right away, it will be there for few years more. Therefore the solution could be useful. Still, no details on how the scheduling works. combininb GMSK and OFDMA should bring several RF optimization challenges. Any info on availability?

Short-term solution Interesting technology, but just a short-term solution, no? Operators eventually want to refarm their 3G networks for their LTE nteworks, so they don't plan to keep both around. Would be more interesting if the tech could overlay WiFi with LTE.
