Verizon Suffers an LTE Outage?

Verizon Wireless appears to have suffered a Long Term Evolution (LTE) service outage on Sunday evening, according to reports, and services may not be fully restored in some parts of the country.

The full extent and duration of any service disruption is not known at this stage, not least because there has been no official word yet from Verizon on the outage. In addition, a Verizon spokesman had not responded to Light Reading Mobile's email requesting information as this article was published.

Based on reports from blogs, such as this one on "droid matters", or this one from the "Tekgoblin," as well as discussion thread on Reddit, the LTE service went down Sunday evening.

Later Sunday night, the DroidLife blog reported that the service was back up and running, but not everywhere.

A search on Twitter reveals disgruntled users, but no confirmation or explanation from Verizon Wireless about a service outage.

While the exact details are still unclear, it wouldn't be the first time Verizon Wireless's LTE network has gone down. In April, the operator suffered an outage that was believed to be caused by an overloaded home subscriber server (HSS) supplied by Nokia Networks .
