Sprint Cuts 452 Jobs at Kansas HQ

Sprint has cut 452 jobs at its Overland Park, Kan., headquarters, as it undertakes its planned staff cuts.

The Kansas City Star reports that the cuts are the first installment of local layoffs planned throughout October. The layoffs were revealed in a filing with the Kansas City Department of Commerce. (See Sprint Starts Layoffs, Will Take $160M Charge.)

Sprint hasn't revealed how many cuts are coming yet. It has laid off more than 900 employees at its HQ so far this year.

Keep up with the latest in mobile operator developments on our dedicated channel here on Light Reading.

Sprint has said the layoffs will include management and non-management positions and be "largely completed" by the end of October. It expects to take a $160 million charge in the fall quarter because of the cuts.

There have been some suggestions that Sprint may even move its HQ at some point. (See Sprint: Heading to California?)

Re: jobs cut Dan,

As more of the work moves to contractors, the quality of service wanes. I've had cable technicians come in who were clueless, and others who were very good. So the more contractors they have, the more of a crapshoot it will be on what kind of service one receives.

Re: jobs cut Yeah, it would also be interesting to how many contractors they have. They were using contractors for a lot of Network Vision installations IIRC.

jobs cut More people are getting the pink slip just before the holiday season. Not very cheery for them.
