SingTel Shows Off LTE

6:55 AM -- Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel) (OTC: SGTJY) and Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC) have invited the media to a "live showcase" of mobile multimedia services over Long Term Evolution (LTE) on March 16.

The carrier says it will show off "next-generation multimedia mobile applications concurrently over a single LTE device," hinting that the demo will include high-definition video.

SingTel announced its LTE trial plans in November 2009, naming six vendor partners. (See APAC Operators Commit to LTE.)

Apart from Ericsson, which gets to claim a marketing coup with this demo (as long as it works, of course...), the other vendors are Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU), Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. , NEC Corp. (Tokyo: 6701), Nokia Networks , and ZTE Corp. (Shenzhen: 000063; Hong Kong: 0763), all members of the "LTE G8." (See MWC 2010: The LTE G8.)
