Looking Ahead to Sprint's Strategy Day

6:30 PM -- The iPhone 4S coming to Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) is bound to be a topic of conversation at the operator's strategy meeting in NYC on Friday, but how the carrier will move to Long Term Evolution (LTE) is likely to be the big topic of the day. (See Sprint Hastens to Join US LTE Race .)

I expect Sprint CEO Dan Hesse and Co. to elaborate on how they are going to do 4G LTE differently from their major rivals. This will involve using spectrum from LightSquared , Clearwire LLC (Nasdaq: CLWR) and quite possibly some of the cable companies to deploy LTE. (See Cox Dodges iPhone Question.)

Sprint's partners will likely offer a swathe of different products and services over this multi-modal, multi-frequency network. We may well learn more about what exactly that entails tomorrow.

We know for sure that Sprint will talk more about how it plans to backhaul LTE too. (See Sprint to Reveal Backhaul Contract Winners Friday.)

Don't be surprised if Hesse kicks things off by explaining how Sprint's unlimited plans will help give Sprint's 3G network a new importance even as it moves to 4G though. (See Sprint to Offer Unlimited Data for iPhone.)

And I'd be shocked if he doesn't have a least a few words to say about the loss of Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL)'s co-founder Steve Jobs. (See Apple Chairman Steve Jobs Is Dead at 56.) — Dan Jones, Site Editor, Light Reading Mobile
