LiTE Bites: LightSquared's 12 & AT&T in Chicago

Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, devices and deals are popping up all over this week:

  • LightSquared has signed another wholesale LTE deal -- its twelfth -- with Simplexity MNVO Solutions. The Simplexity unit offers its partners the ability to deliver private branded wireless services to customers. All this before LightSquared has actually launched its terrestrial 4G network with Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S), which is expected early in 2012. (See Mobile Startups Raised $801.9M in July.)

  • AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T)'s LTE signal has been spotted in Chicago before the network has been officially launched. A Boy Genius Report source finds downlink speeds at up to 12 Mbit/s and uploads at 2 Mbit/s, while This Is My Next reports downloads between 6 and 7 Mbit/s, on average. AT&T launched its first LTE devices on Aug. 21, and five live markets should follow "very soon," according to a spokesman. (See AT&T LTE Network 'Coming Soon'.)

  • Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM) -- with partners like Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. -- is pushing ahead with multi-mode LTE-TDD devices in India. (See India Inches Closer to LTE TDD.)

  • What's the next big LTE phone from Verizon Wireless ? Pocket-Lint expects it could be the High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) (Taiwan: 2498) Vigor, which is also rumored to be the first phone with Beats audio. Engadget, however, finds that what may be the LG Electronics Inc. (London: LGLD; Korea: 6657.KS) Revolution 2 has now passed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) .
