Korea's LTE Lift-Off
The move is notable for a number of reasons. First, while SK Telecom (Nasdaq: SKM) and LG Telecom , which offers its mobile services under the U+ brand, have launched early, KT Corp. has decided to hold back a while. You can find out more about that decision by checking out the new Pyramid Research analyst note on South Korea's LTE market and the prospect for LTE uptake in the broader Asia/Pacific region.
Second, both LG U+ and SK Telecom are deploying technologies of note. LG U+ is using enhanced High-Rate Packet Data (eHRPD) to support service interoperability between LTE and CDMA, while SK Telecom is using Circuit Switched (CS) fallback techniques to offer voice over LTE.
