ITU Telecom: LTE in China
10:30 AM -- China Mobile Ltd. (NYSE: CHL) executives are heading to the ITU Telecom World 2009 in Geneva next week to take part in an invitation-only Long Term Evolution (LTE) Summit it has organized with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) , Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Ltd. , and the TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance . (See Taking LTE Global.)
The discussion, which will consider the potential for aligning time-division duplex (TDD) and frequency-division duplex (FDD) LTE, comes just as reports emerge that China Mobile is to begin outdoor TDD-LTE (also known as TD-LTE) trials in 2010.
That follows swiftly upon the carrier's announcement that it has been testing TD-LTE femtocells with Nokia Networks for indoor coverage. (See China Mobile, NSN Test Femtos.)
The carrier has previously stated its intention to launch TD-LTE services in 2010, so the timing makes sense. (See China Mobile Fast-Tracks TD-LTE .)
EuroBlog intends to be at the LTE Summit and report on proceedings on our ITU Telecom World 2009 microsite, where you can find all the show news and views before, during, and after the event.
