Huawei Linked to Major LTE TDD Deal

9:45 AM -- A detailed report from China suggests Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has landed a deal to provide network equipment and devices for SoftBank Mobile Corp. 's Long Term Evolution Time Division Duplex (LTE TDD) rollout. (See Huawei Readies LTE TDD Device.)

Softbank, one of The Top 20 Bridge Builders, is a member of the Global TD-LTE Initiative that is promoting the global deployment of the TDD flavor of LTE. (See Global TDD Initiative Launched at MWC 2011.)

If confirmed, this looks like quite a coup for Huawei, which has already been involved in a number of commercial LTE TDD service launches in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The Chinese vendor is also hoping to land some LTE TDD purchase orders soon from India's Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) license-holders, which are in the late trial stages and preparing to build their networks before getting involved in later network rollouts in China.
