Going WiMax to LTE Down Under

4:30 AM -- In a sign that interest in Long Term Evolution Time Division Duplex (LTE TDD) is not confined to China and India, Australian WiMax operator Vividwireless has announced that it will test the mobile broadband technology. (See Teeing Up LTE TDD.)

The operator has deployed a WiMax network in some Australian cities using 2.3GHz spectrum. One of the goals of the LTE TDD trial is to assess the technology as a potential upgrade from WiMax.

At the heart of the trial is Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and its SingleRAN equipment, which the vendor claims will allow a smooth transition from WiMax to LTE TDD.
