German Spectrum Auction: Day 18

2:10 PM -- Well into the fourth week of bidding, the big German spectrum auction for airwaves that can be used for Long Term Evolution (LTE) is still going on. But the bids haven't reached the lofty sums that the auction in India is generating. (See India 3G Auction: Day 21 .)

After 18 days and 142 rounds, the bids in the German auction totaled €2.9 billion ($3.7 billion).

Most of the bidding activity by the four participating operators -- E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH , Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT), Telefónica O2 Germany GmbH & Co. OHG , and Vodafone Germany -- has been focused on the 800MHz frequency band. But bidding has recently increased for spectrum in the 2.6GHz band.

The latest auction results are here on the German regulator Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA) 's Website.
