Evidence of Apple's LTE Testing Mounts

4:40 PM -- The evidence is piling up that Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) and its carrier partners are working on testing 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) capabilities for future iPhones or iPads.

After I reported that Apple is staffing up for LTE and Boy Genius Report uncovered LTE in an iOS test build, Forbes has now found that Apple is looking to hire LTE field test engineers. (See The iPhone's Future Is 4G and Carriers Testing Apple LTE Devices? You'd Hope So ...)

Elizabeth Woyke at Forbes reports that Apple put up ads for field test engineers versed in LTE on LinkedIn this week. Field tests usually happen in the later stages of the product curve.

I'm still not sure you should jump around like idiots in gleeful anticipation of a 4G iPhone though. Look at the timing of ads -- if Apple is hiring now, that doesn't give them a huge window for field tests if rumors of a September or October launch are correct.

re: Evidence of Apple's LTE Testing Mounts

Frankly anything short of a full fledged LTE phone would be rediculed by apple haters and the media.    If the phone is not LTE or anytihng short of LTE, it better be postponed.

Also I am simply surprised that Verizon and ATT have not done anything to upgrade thie rnetworks to LTE at this late stage.  At a minimum, JDSU's LTE test equipoment sales should be going through the roof by now and there should be some trickle of small cell intrastructure somewhere--anywhere, I see none.

I see absolutely no LTE supply chain happening:  in chip sales, in equipment sales, test equipment sales, nothing.  At some point Apple must realize they must own the network, even if these two turkeys label their network LTE they won't be able to support millions of apple phones--no way.  It would take these guys 2 years just to qualify a $50 femto cell internally, that is if the equipment can pass the ludicrous supplier qualification requirements that they put on their suppliers and thier supply chain in order to meet their desired 20 year life cycle--just read the ATIS document.

Nope. Apple has been happy to be on the backend of 3G wireless before, why not LTE? Frankly they don't care what the media or Apple haters think. Just because they're testing devices doesn't mean an LTE iPhone is coming in October.
