Comcast, Verizon & TWC Bundle Up

Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) and Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC) expanded their bundled offerings with Verizon Wireless into new U.S. cities Thursday.

The cable companies have gotten together with 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) buddy Verizon to offer combined video, Internet and voice packages bundled with smartphones and tablets. The companies hope to sweeten the pot by offering customers a pre-paid Visa card worth "up to $200" if they buy into the package deal.

Comcast and Verizon kicked off the bundle deal in several cities across Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee on Thursday.

Time Warner Cable and Big Red, meanwhile, say that the bundles are coming to "many cities in Wisconsin, North and South Carolina and Northeast Ohio" now.

Why this matters
Verizon continues to deepen its 4G wireless relationship with its cable buddies. It's trying to close a $3.6 billion deal with a cable consortium -- including Comcast and TWC -- to acquire 4G-ready advanced wireless services (AWS) spectrum covering nearly 260 million Americans.
