China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has awarded FDD LTE licenses to two of the country's three major operators as part of the country's next wave of 4G developments.
China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (NYSE: CHA) and China Unicom Ltd. (NYSE: CHU) have been awarded the licenses, adding to the LTE TDD licenses that were handed out late last year. The two operators have been waiting patiently for this official approval to forge ahead with their 4G strategies, as their hybrid FDD/TDD rollout plans are more heavily weighted towards the construction of FDD LTE networks and use of FDD LTE spectrum.
