AT&T Hits 400 4G LTE Markets

AT&T has now gone live with faster 4G technology in 400 towns and cities in the US.

The new towns with AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T)'s 4G LTE are:

  • Alexander City, Ala.
  • Concord, N.H.
  • Jamestown, N.Y.

A spokesman for AT&T says that the operator's 4G LTE footprint now covers 240 million potential customers. Here's how AT&T stacks up against its 4G rivals in the US:

Why this matters
AT&T is pushing to catch its rival, Verizon Wireless , which has covered its 3G footprint with 500 live LTE markets. AT&T is aiming to have 420 markets, covering 270 million potential subscribers, up by the end of the year.

Re: Speed, ubiquity...YEAH! Marin and congested areas in SF when I am not on LTE.  On LTE it usually is quite quick.  My phone spends the majority of its time on 4G in my house, rarely can I pick up LTE here.

Speed, ubiquity...YEAH! I can't wait for AT&T to have LTE in more markets. I find that I get great speed in SF Bay area on LTE but otherwise their "4G" is only so-so with some web pages failing to ever load before we all fall asleep from boredom.  I guess like most folks I am a speed freak.

Verizon spectrum buy Looks like AT&T's Verizon spectrum buy won't give it new markets, but bolster existing. It's growing at a rapid clip. Hitting its 420 target will be easy.
