A 'LightSquared' for Europe?

2:00 AM What are the chances of a LightSquared-like venture getting off the ground in Europe?

Expanding to Europe would involve multi-country, multi-spectrum debates, and of course they are already seeing the Gallileo - GPS spectrum issues. GPS use has risen dramatically in the last few years, for sea, air and terrestrial navigation. Europeans may be even more vocal than the Boating US & US Sailing members who lobbied goverment in regards to the GPS spectrum interference. I am skeptical about LightSquared being able to work through all the roadblocks and find enough open spectrum.

Thanks, AnneC. I should clarify that the blog was not about whether the US-based LightSquared could expand into Europe, but about the potential for similar wholesale operator to start up over here.

Yes, given the GPS troubles LightSquared has had in the US, it's hard to fathom how anyone else would want to attempt such a venture in Europe.
