Unicom Enters Third Phase

2:10 PM -- China Unicom Ltd. (NYSE: CHU) has announced its intention to spend 1.5 billion Chinese Yuan Renminbi (US$219 million) on the third phase of its W-CDMA 3G rollout.
China Unicom was the last of the three Chinese operators to launch 3G services, and this will add a further 50 cities to its coverage map. It is on a scale similar to the first phase but is considerably smaller than the second phase, which rolled out to 228 cities.
