Lucent Supports VIVO

SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced it signed an 18-month services agreement with VIVO, the largest mobile operator in the Southern Hemisphere. Lucent will provide repair and remote technical support services, helping VIVO to maintain the quality of its third-generation (3G) CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO network. This project also has a one-year renewal option.

In addition to this services agreement, VIVO also will begin to deploy new base station software and enhancements to increase the coverage of VIVO´s Lucent-supplied CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO network in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, as part of an expansion agreement signed last May.

"VIVO is renowned for its network quality, having been recognized officially for its achievements by ANATEL - the country´s regulatory agency," said Javier Rodriguez, vice president of network technology for VIVO. "Our partnership with Lucent has helped us maintain our reputation for network service quality and the source for the newest and most advanced application offers."

The remote technical support services provided by Lucent´s services teams will help VIVO maintain its network quality through optimization and correction of any detected systemic gaps. In addition, outsourcing the repair services will ensure network performance and reduce overall network maintenance costs.
