Bytemobile Quiet on M&A Talk
"As a policy, Bytemobile does not comment on rumors or speculation," says a spokesperson for the company.
An Avian Securities LLC note published Tuesday suggested that Juniper is "seriously considering" buying Bytemobile to improve its wireless portfolio offerings for carriers. Bytemobile uses compression techniques to improve data download speeds and capacity available on current 3G networks. (See Rumor: Juniper Eyeing Bytemobile.)
Such technology is seen as a way for carriers to squeeze more performance from existing networks. Juniper has previously said that it will try to build some of its own Evolved Packet Core (EPC) architecture for next-generation wireless networks. (See Juniper Looks Inward for Wireless.) Analysts, however, have generally highlighted wireless as an area that Juniper needs to work on. (See Juniper Looks Inward for Wireless.)
If the company is considering an acquisition, it isn't saying. Juniper hasn't yet replied to Unstrung questions about any buyout.
