AlcaLu Scores an A

7:20 AM -- China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (NYSE: CHA) might be looking to move to CDMA Revision B at some point, but not just at the moment, it would seem. (See China Telecom Revs Up Rev. B .)

Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) has just announced a major CDMA upgrade deal with the Chinese operator, to be implemented in 56 cities across nine provinces this year, but says the upgrade is for Revision A, not Revision B. (See AlcaLu Wins China CDMA Deal.)

China Telecom, which became a CDMA service provider as part of the carrier reorganization in 2008, has about 75 million mobile customers. (See China Begins Carrier Revamp and China to Get 3G – At Last!)

AlcaLu also took the opportunity to boast of its CDMA market leadership, as measured by Dell'Oro Group . The research house put AlcaLu, which has more than 70 CDMA customers in 40 countries, as the No. 1 CDMA infrastructure vendor in the second quarter of 2010 in terms of revenues.
