BT's Marc Allera: 5G's progress has been encouraging

MWC22 – Marc Allera, CEO of BT's Consumer Division, said there's a lot yet to prove with 5G but the early experiments and network performance has been really encouraging. 5G standalone is the next big incremental step forward in the network's evolution. Here's what else he covered in our interview from Barcelona:

  • What's happening now is encouraging, but we've got many more years to prove 5G's value (0:32)
  • It's way too early to say what comes after 5G or what we'll need from the network once 5G matures (2:42)
  • BT is already experimenting with "metaverse-like experiences" and he expects that metaverse will evolve and progress gradually, like the Internet itself (2:57)
  • Network operators need to be ready for massive demand and capacity use while the world works toward blending the physical and digital worlds (3:30)
