ZTE selects Analog Devices' Blackfin eMedia platform with Fusiv rechnology for IP television
January 31, 2005
NORWOOD, Mass. -- Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications, today announced that ZTE Corporation, China's largest listed telecommunications equipment provider, has adopted ADI's Blackfin(R) eMedia Platform with Fusiv(TM) technology for a wide range of broadband customer premise equipment (CPE) devices including Internet Protocol (IP) set-top boxes. Powered by ADI's Blackfin Processor, the Blackfin eMedia Platform with Fusiv technology delivers the price, power, performance and programmability to enable ZTE to deliver complete system solutions to service providers at an attractive price point. The combination of Blackfin and Fusiv technology also provides the flexibility to provide an upgradeable technology platform that delivers IP television (IP TV) and video-on-demand (VoD) services to consumers. Initial deployments will begin during early 2005.
"ADI is bringing new capabilities that make delivery of digital TV and VoD over broadband networks a reality, helping to accelerate ZTE's roll-out of new services over broadband," said Yifang Yu, general manager, Multimedia Group, ZTE. "By taking advantage of ADI's programmable, software-based approach, we are able to implement a wide range of solutions that are not limited by cost, functionality or long design cycles."
ZTE is utilizing products from the ADI Blackfin eMedia Platform. The Blackfin eMedia Platform combines media processing supplied by a Blackfin Processor and network processing enabled by Fusiv technology. In an IP TV set-top box application, the software-programmable Blackfin Processor microarchitecture provides high-performance media processing, efficient audio/video (A/V) compression, low power consumption and multiformat flexibility (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Windows Media(R) Video, VC1, Windows Media(R) Audio 9 and H.264), at a price point suited for the consumer electronics market. Fusiv network processing technology provides wire-speed performance, integrates the necessary network interfaces and handles security processing including digital rights management of IP TV or other media content.
"The era of the IP set-top box has finally arrived. With the introduction of ZTE's new products, service providers can now offer digital TV and VoD services over broadband IP connections," said John Croteau, general manager, Media Platforms and Services Group at Analog Devices, Inc. "ADI's eMedia Platform with Fusiv technology offers ZTE the right balance of scalability and price/performance, enabling ZTE to quickly provide their customers with the solutions that feature not only services demanded today but also the expandability needed for future products."
