SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Veraz Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRAZ), a leading global provider of IP softswitch and media gateway solutions, announced a new release of its I-Gate 4000 PRO media gateway that enables operators to optimize available bandwidth in wireless networks utilizing the major wireless industry codecs. Using the I-Gate 4000 PRO, a wireless carrier can increase the capacity of its voice network by up to 12 times while maintaining voice quality.

The I-Gate 4000 PRO is 80% more dense than its predecessor and enables 16,800 concurrent VoIP calls per chassis, or over 100,000 concurrent calls in four square feet of floor space, helping to optimize large switch site operations in fast growing wireless core networks.

"With each enhancement to our product line Veraz strives to anticipate and adapt to the needs of the industry. Adding support for key wireless codecs further underscores both our commitment to the wireless industry as well as our commitment to voice quality across any network," said Doug Sabella, CEO of Veraz. "Wireless carriers around the globe are increasingly selecting the Veraz family of media gateways to optimize their available bandwidth thus enabling them to support rapid growth."

The I-Gate 4000 PRO is Veraz's flagship media gateway product and leverages sophisticated in-house DSP technology to enable industry-leading voice quality at compression rates of up to 12 to 1. Designed for non-blocking and failsafe switching, the I-Gate 4000 PRO delivers high traffic throughput and service availability. By combining high-quality performance, scalability and reliability with open standards-based interfaces, the I-Gate 4000 PRO serves as a powerful next-generation switching platform for wireless and wireline carriers.

Additionally, the I-Gate 4000 PRO includes support for compressed TDM WAN interfaces enabling direct connection to carrier transport networks including SONET or SDH networks that are common in large wireless and wireline operators without the need for routers at each gateway site. The I-Gate 4000 PRO also adds support for enhanced security features such as an integrated firewall and IPsec VPN, and support for ITU Q.50, a critical protocol for legacy switch replacement.
