Alcatel provides its multimedia messaging services (MMS) solution to United Telecommunications Services

PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris : CGEP.PA and NYSE : ALA) today announced the provision of its Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) solution to United Telecommunications Services (UTS), Curacao's most important telecommunications company. This solution will enable UTS to achieve new revenue generation opportunities, while introducing the advantages of wireless MMS to UTS subscribers on the Caribbean islands of Curacao, Bonaire, St. Maarten, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Kitts.
"UTS mobile subscribers will now take advantage of enhanced voice, video and data messaging via their wireless devices," said Julio Constansia, managing director, UTS. "It's a matter of great pride for Curacao to know that we have some of the most advanced mobile MMS services in the Caribbean. Moreover, by integrating the Alcatel MMS equipment from time division multiple access into our planned GPRS network, we will be ready to serve the communications needs of our customers well into the future."

The unique Proxy Platform software architecture used by the Alcatel MMSsuite promotes high performance, ease of installation andmaximumscalability, making it very cost-effective for UTS. The Alcatel MMS suite solves all content adaptation related issues, allows interoperability with other MMS system vendors and is easily deployed within existing data networks. Moreover, the Alcatel MMS product implements the latest OpenMobile Alliance 1.2 industry specification, and 3GPP R5 and3GPP2standards. Service providers benefit therefore from smooth integrationofMMS proxy relay, Wireless Application Protocol gateway and push proxy into their existing wireless networks.
Additionally, to address billing issues, the Alcatel MMS product embeds a sophisticated billing feature. This will allow UTS to apply various pricing models, whether based on the message type, the message content and even a subscription fee.
