ESPOO, Finland -- UCell, the number two mobile operator in Uzbekistan, has signed a contract with its turnkey network supplier, Nokia Siemens Networks, to extend core network capacity and keep control on costs.

Under the agreement, Nokia Siemens Networks will expand UCell’s existing core network and value added services platforms. It will install the latest mobile softswitching and packet core network technology, transport equipment, base station controllers, home location registers and media gateways.

Nokia Siemens Networks will also extend UCell’s text message and multimedia message centers, provide a voice and video mail solution and extend device management and service provisioning capability to enable the operator to provide continuously high quality services for their customers. Accurate and transparent charging and billing of those services is ensured with the extension of the convergent mediation, while the network quality is monitored, managed and optimized by the NetAct network resource management system. Nokia Siemens Networks will also provide implementation as well as consulting and systems integration services for the network.

“We are happy that UCell has entrusted the full network upgrade to us - maintaining our position as the main supplier will enable us to continue to work with UCell in a turnkey mode, delivering advantages of increased efficiencies in the network at lower cost and more importantly supporting UCell on its continued success story,” said Sergio Duroux, Head of Sub Region Turkey, Eastern Europe and Central Asia at Nokia Siemens Networks.
