STOCKHOLM -- Ericsson and Telia International Carrier (Telia IC), today announced the world's first roll out of a distributed, cross-continental softswitch solution, capable of delivering full carrier-grade telephony services in Europe and between Europe and US. This network is the first live implementation, which allows an operator to provide advanced telephony services to multiple continents from a central location, controlling multi-service gateways in a number of different countries. This solution enables Telia IC to better serve its international wholesale business across Europe and between Europe and the US. The current industry climate demands an optimized network that delivers high quality services in a cost-effective way. Ericsson's ENGINE softswitch solution is a multi-service platform that addresses this need. "Using the ENGINE platform enables us to have a better management of our international telephony costs. At the same time, this platform provides us with the ability to offer higher quality and more integrated services to our customers" says Jean-Claude Geha, Vice President and head of Telia IC's Networks Division.
