MINNEAPOLIS -- TE Connectivity (TE) today announced that its FlexWave Prism distributed antenna system (DAS) has been deployed to provide clear and consistent mobile service for multiple mobile operators throughout the Copenhagen Metro subway system (www.m.dk). The subway system spans 21 kilometers from the island of Amager to Copenhagen City in Denmark. The TE DAS covers the underground section of two nine-kilometer parallel tracks as well as eight underground stations in the center of Copenhagen, providing mobile service in the most important part of the metro system that connects Copenhagen City to the airport. The Metro services more than one million passengers each week.

The FlexWave Prism DAS replaces an incumbent DAS solution that was having performance and reliability problems. Additionally, the existing DAS had active elements in train tunnels that required maintenance in areas where access was severely restricted. The FlexWave Prism DAS minimized this issue by lowering the number of active elements in the tunnel from more than 50 to 13. This significantly reduces maintenance costs while improving reliability. Another significant savings was the removal of the eight local base station locations deployed throughout the Metro. The base stations were replaced by a base station hotel that supports multiple operators from one central location, reducing real estate costs and simplifying network management.

The new FlexWave Prism DAS deployment was project managed by Niras (www.niras.dk), supports GSM900, and can be easily upgraded to support DCS, UMTS-HSPA, & LTE services. The all-digital RF transport of the FlexWave Prism DAS ensures consistent power levels and performance everywhere in the system, no matter how far a remote unit is from its base station. This is another significant improvement over the previous cascaded system, with improved downlink and uplink signal levels, improved quality, and higher data performance. This solution will be featured in TE’s booth #2A61 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 27 through March 1, 2012.
